Lately

I haven't painted in two weeks. However, this is what I have been doing...

I rearranged my office to increase working efficiency but mostly to make a salvaged shelf I found fit and hold my important things.

The important things it holds are snacks and books. (Very important!) I painted it white so that when I have shows in the studio the dark wood wont look so dark and woody and distracting and ugly.

I've been reading a lot. This is my new book that I just started, Concerning the Spiritual in Art by Wassily Kandinsky. I'm really into it but as you can see below, it puts penny to sleep.

Lastly, I have been spending a majority of my time writing. This (above) is my website thepapercrane.com.  I encourage you to read it if you like art. I have spent a lot of time over the last few weeks doing studio visits and interviewing artists about their work which I write about and post on tpc. You can see new interviews with painter Heather Chontos, studio visit and interview with Woohyun Shim and textile artist Daniaelle Simonsen. Soon a new interview will be posted with photographer Bryan Derballa. I am working on an essay that I hope to post soon as well and lastly I'm S-L-O-W-L-Y working on a critical writing grant through the Warhol Foundation...Which is really challenging and takes a lot of my time.  In addition to these things, I continuously re evaluate my life and wonder if my work will ever again produce a paycheck.
That all said, I'll be painting again soon. And, there will be an art show here in the studio at the end of this month featuring the paintings of myself (Chicago), Heather Chontos (Brooklyn), Woohyun Shim (Korea), and Leslie Carlson (Chicago). Details to follow...
