Good morning everyone,
A few years ago I founded a group in Chicago called Ladies Skill Share. My idea was to create an outreach network open to all women who had/have a skill or talent they would like to share/teach other women. My aim in founding this group was to promote female empowerment and community through skill building in a variety of formats. I love to teach, I care about women, community and social justice and wanted to find a way to combine my talents in craft with these other things that are meaningful to me. Thus Ladies Skill Share was born. The group has been on hiatus for some time now, though members have continued to join, totaling 64 in all to date. We were able to organize a few Skill Shares when it first began, though things have since dissipated a bit. I feel ready to put some time and energy back into this project and feel too that it is my responsibility to give some direction to the group and move it toward more tangible outcomes.
Skill building can be a lot of things, beyond making something tangible. Learning to communicate, or public speak, manage time better between work, family and creative endeavors. It can also be things like learning to weave, or grow a garden, learn how to cook, or make home made household cleaners. Skill share is about women finding a community in each other, learning, open discourse and support. Ladies + Learning + Teaching + Community = Empowerment and Growth!
Presently, I am planning our first meeting in nearly two years. If you'd like to join our growing community and attend the next meeting, please sign up for an invitation via our Facebook page.
Lets do this ladies!
