Sculptural Basketry Weaving 4-day Intensive AUGUST

$720.00

In this 4-day intensive workshop we will explore tactility, color, and creativity. Focusing on learning 3D weaving techniques to create basketry forms, structures, and vessels. Participants will also practice dyeing reed to discover how different techniques can produce interesting patterns.

We will investigate form and structure by examining both historical and contemporary sculptural weaving in basketry. The workshop will begin with a small sample project, and then participants will progress to creating small-scale sculptural basketry projects, either using molds and formers or working freehand and a variety of bases.

This workshop emphasizes 3D weaving and basketry techniques to explore pattern, form, structure, and sculptural concepts. It is ideal for artists interested in incorporating basket weaving into their work, as well as beginners looking to explore a new craft. Come with your imaginative ideas, creative spirit, and a willingness to play without judgment! No prior experience is required.

Each student will receive 2.5 lbs of reed to use during the class and take home. We will do two group dye baths and participants will have the opportunity to apply color to their material. Additional tools, such as scissors, spoke weights and packing tools will be available during the workshop for participants to use. Participants will also receive an information and resource packet to take home.
